Homemade Chicken Feed

Poultry farming can be a lucrative business. However, it is the owner's responsibility to take care of the chicken especially in regards to their health and what they eat.

What Do Chickens Like To Eat?

  • Chicken feed are fed based on the bird's age, growth phase and type of birds.

  • In the olden days, farmers tend to feed their flock with kitchen scraps.

  • However, modern farmers are now keen to feed formulated poultry feeds as research has shown that a well balance nutrition feed will contribute to a better health.

  • It is highly recommended to provide your chicken with simple, well balanced nutritious homemade feed.

  • It is inexpensive compared to commercial feed.

  • It is very healthy for your flock and often have no side effects.

  • You know exactly what are the ingredients mixed into the feed.

Recipe For A Complete Wholesome Feed*:

  • 8 cups of organic soft white wheat

  • 8 cups of organic red wheat

  • 6 cups of organic corns

  • 12 cups of  organic oats

  • 4 cups of lentils (organic)

  • 1 cup sesame  and 2 cups flax seed (organic)

  • Quarter cup kelp granules

Mix all the ingredients with 2 tablespoon of olive oil. This would be a very nutritious meal for your flock as it contains all the nutrients such as minerals, proteins, carbs and vitamins.

Should You Add Soy or Corn (GMO)?

  • It is a highly debated topic whether to add soy or corn to the chicken feed.

  • If one is going for an organic feed, homemade, natural feed, it is perhaps not recommended to add soy or corn in the feed.

  • This is mainly because it is highly processed and it is normally obtained from unnatural sources.

  • It would also be much cheaper and healthier if only homemade, natural ingredients are used.
